Tristan, an adventurer wanting to gain strength for unknown reasons, ventures into the lair of a Boss Monster. He nearly dies trying to fight it on his own, but a trio of mercenaries come to his rescue. After much debate, the trio decides to let Tristan join them to face the monster again. But little did they know of what fate had in store for the group…
Immortal Souls was my Senior Project game at GMU. It was developed over the course of two semesters with a small team of classmates and friends in RPG Maker MV. We chose to use RPG Maker MV because none of the group members had any programming knowledge. I maintain a collection of story ideas I have created for games. I gave the team a sample of story ideas that I thought would fit the format of RPG Maker, and the group decided to go with a small prompt of mine that asked a simple question: “What if an immortal creature wanted to die?”
Our Senior Project encountered multiple issues due to miscommunication between team members and low quality products by some members. I didn’t want to fail my senior project, especially with it having an original story idea of mine so I worked with our professor and my team members to get our project back on track. We continued to struggle as the makeup of our team changed drastically the second semester.
In the end, despite all the obstacles we managed to produce a small functioning RPG for our Senior Project. Within two semesters, I was able to create the entire story from my initial prompt and wrote the cutscenes for the game. I hope one day to return to this game to remake it in better quality with a team.
